General Program Description

Licking County JFS inspects and licenses Type B providers in Licking County, while the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services licenses and inspects Type A in-home centers and out of home day care centers. To be a Type B- in home child care provider, you must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.

Professional Type B Home
The Professional Type B Home Provider is an adult who provides child care services for of multiple families not to exceed six children.

Child Care provider licensure is completed by the Licking County JFS Child Care Specialist. Child Care providers are not able to receive reimbursement to care for their own children.

All children present in the home at the time care is being provided count toward the maximum child allowance, with the exception of the provider's children age 6 and older.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have high school diploma or GED (For Type B Professional Provider only)
  • Provide care in the home in which you reside
  • Pass a BCI and FBI criminal background check (includes all adults in the home)
  • Must pass a Licking County JFS Children Services background check
  • Provide a medical statement completed by a physician
  • Complete a Basic Health and Safety Class for Professional Type B Providers (no cost)
  • Complete First Aid and CPR training (vouchers available after BCI & FBI background check completed)

Note: BCI and FBI criminal background check, as well as the provider’s medical exam, at the provider’s cost.
