General Program Description

Each month, Licking County Job and Family Services (LCJFS) serves about 1.316 children with subsidized child care. While working, attending school, or completing approved Ohio Works First (OWF) work activities, parents may be eligible to receive assistance to make childcare more affordable. LCJFS provides access to subsidized child care assistance made available through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

LCJFS is also responsible for inspecting and licensing in-home child care providers in Licking County, while the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services inspects and licenses out of home day care providers. Child Care Provider Certification

Child care assistance includes help finding a day care provider as well as help to offset the costs. Subsidies are based upon income guidelines and will vary according to your income and number of children receiving care. Eligible families will pay a portion of the child care costs based on each family’s gross income. Co-payments are paid directly to the child care provider while the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services will pay the difference.

Eligibility Requirements

Families must apply and be determined eligible for child care assistance. Initially, families whose gross earnings are 125 percent or below the federal poverty guidelines may be eligible for childcare assistance. Families may remain eligible until their income exceeds 200 percent of the federal poverty guideline. Case reviews are conducted every 12 months to assess income changes or other changes that may impact eligibility.

In addition to the income guidelines, families must also be participating in an eligible activity such as paid employment, education/training program, or an authorized OWF work activity.
